Whatever diesel you put in your T25, you're usually stuck with the original fit 1.6 flywheel and clutch. Once you start upping the power, particularly to a 1.9 TD or TDi, you can experience clutch slip, particularly between gear-shifts. This can be caused by a combination of factors, but is a result of the original clutch simply not being strong enough for the higher output engines.
The 1Z flywheel accommodates a larger pressure plate and friction disc, suitable for fitting to a TD and TDi engine. This is fitted to a wide range of VAG vehicles, from Mk3 Golf/Vento/Passat TDis, Golf and Corrado G60's and various petrol Passats from 88-96.
Although this flywheel is the right fit for the 1.9 diesel motors it’s very heavy, which can result in sluggish pick up. We take material from the back edge of the flywheel and around the starter ring. This lightens the flywheel from 9.5 to 6.5kg. The rotating mass is then rotationally balanced within 1 gram. This results in a smooth running engine, which is keen to rev-up.
Clutch pressure plates from most of the above can be used, if using a TDi input shaft. Alternatively you can use the original input shaft and a standard 2.1 friction plate. A standard release bearing is used for all applications.
